Remarks & Notes |
Electric cogwheel railcar Bhe 1/2 # 30 (built 1967) of the Pilatus Bahn in the "Eselwand" (donkey wall) with a grade of up to 48 %, below the 52 meter long Esel II tunnel. The donkey is one of the summits of Mount Pilatus mountain range. The world's steepest cogwheel railway was inaugurated in 1889 and goes from Alpnachstad (440 meter a.s.l.) to the Pilatus mountain (2073 meter a.s.l.). The gauge is 800 mm and the Locher cogwheel system is unique. Since 2023, this railcars are replaced by new Bhe 2/2 from StadlerRail. The Bhe 1/2 # 30 was scrapped in 2022 already. |
