Remarks & Notes |
Electric cogwheel railcar Bhe 1/2 # 21 (built 1937) of the Pilatus Bahn is leaving Aemsigen crossing station, halfway up the mountain. The world's steepest cogwheel railway was inaugurated in 1889 and goes from Alpnachstad (440 meter a.s.l.) to the Pilatus mountain (2073 meter a.s.l.). The gauge is 800 mm and the Locher cogwheel system is unique. Since 2023, this railcars are replaced by new Bhe 2/2 from StadlerRail. The Bhe 1/2 # 21 is now exhibited in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne (VHS) |
