The Y303 crew has just half a mile to go before being relieved by the Prairie du Chien based L724 at Mazomanie. Y303s day began with a cab ride from Janesville to Zenda, where they boarded a grain empty that had left Chicago the night before. From there, they ran the train across the Fox Lake Sub.
30 miles later at Janesville, the crew swapped their PTC equipped SD60s for a pair of SD40-2s before continuing West for about 40 miles on the Madison Sub. Entering the Prairie Sub in downtown Madison, they faced a much slower pace. While the first two segments of the trip allowed for 40 mph running with only a few restrictions, this final 25 mile stretch from Madison to Mazomanie has been limited to just 10 mph. Once relieved, the crew will wrap up their shift with a 90 minute cab ride back to Janesville.
