Introducing America's shortest tourist route! On September 20, 2025, the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum debuted caboose rides onto and off of the former LIRR turntable that serves as the central hub of the Museum's display yard...literally. The train retained its grand opening bunting up until this weekend for Oyster Bay's annual Oyster Festival.
At under 200 feet, the ride route is shorter than most excursion trains. The train consists of a lovingly restored N52 wood-bodied caboose, and a GE 25-tonner named and numbered in honor of Oyster Bay's most famous resident, President (or in this case "Colonel") Theodore Roosevelt. The ride experience includes two full turns on the turntable before reversing back to the boarding platform.
Train rides will run every Saturday from April to November.
