Built between 1984 and 1988 from retired GP9s and GP18s, NS's 28 RP-E4Ds are very unusual slugs. When rebuilt, the units retained their original dynamic brake equipment, including dynamic brake blister, grids and cooling fan. Mated to ex-N&W GP40s.
