| This is the first time I have seen a John Deere tractor used as a locomotive to move railcars around (note the chain between the tractor and the railcar). The operator says it has no brakes and needs its battery charged once a week. He stops by throwing the tractor into reverse. From the looks of the bashed in front end, the railcar stops by hitting the tractor. The operator was working alone moving a string of three grain cars when I was there. He apologized for all the gluton dust on the tractor. It must be a wild ride if things go wrong. A JD 830 weighs in at only 7850 lbs. What does a loaded grain car weigh in at? My first photo at RailPictures and its technically not even a locomotive. Would this be classified as a 2-2-0? |
