Named Charley Atkins after the founder of Travel Town, #1 is a rare EMD Model 40 (only 11 were built) This one started life with the US Navy in 1942, serving at Goat Island, RI and San Diego, CA, before moving to McDonnell-Douglas in Torrance CA. Until about 2001 or so this engine used to pull caboose trains on the first Sunday of each month.
