As late as 1980 steam worked on at least two sugar cane plantations on Guatemala's Pacific slope. I missed the shay, but here is Palo Gordo No. 2 switches empties in the late afternoon under a giant Cieba tree. I believe the cane lines were 30-inch gauge, but it has been a long time.
