| A Chicago, IL to Spencer, IA coal extra is passing over the west switch at Ossian. The east/west switches are powered switches control by radio. When the train gets close they dial up a 5-6 digit number on the radio and the switch automatically lines from the route requested. The switches then talks to the train telling them the route is lined. The signal is the back up to the radio. |
