| Whether hauling trains or switching in the yard, the primary power at the Nevada Northern Railway Museum these days is this 1956-vintage SD9. Not native to the Nevada Northern, she's an ex-Southern Pacific loco that was later acquired by the BHP Nevada Railroad and subsequently absorbed by the museum when the latter line ceased operation. She has recently undergone a prime mover overhaul of sorts and is seen here pulling a string of vintage wooden boxcars at Lackawanna Crossing, just outside Ely. |
