            You are looking at the world's most powerful articulated steam locomotive, C&O H-8 2-6-6-6 Allegheny 1601. It and it's brethren were rated for 7,498 horsepower at 46 MPH. Interesting how single unit diesels haven't made that yet. (Yes, I know there are other factors involved, but this is fun to say.) Also interesting is that while 33% of the 25 Big Boys were saved only 3% of the 68 Lima Alleghenies were. That's a 1893 replica of the "DeWitt Clinton" which was originally built in the early 1830's for the Mohawk and Hudson, the first railroad in New York state. It's not as long as 1601 but it's almost as tall!
