The southbound Floridian changes crews at Nashville Union Station. The deteriorating condition of the Indiana rail network in the early 70's forced Amtrak to look for alternate routes around the problem. This #52 departed Chicago and ran the old C&EI to Evansville and then on the L&N to Nashville. I'm glad I made the effort to ride this trackage.
Not only known as Music City, USA, Nashville served as a major junction for the Louisville and Nashville, Tennessee Central, and Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis as well as through service for a host of other railroads.
