| This is an odd looking little mixed train on a very obscure and rarely used piece of trackage. This train is deep in the hard to access Ft. Richardson Army garrison. Ft. Rich is a veritable maze of trackage that once bustled with activity. Now it is virtually abandoned with most of the miles and miles of rails out of service. However, the ARRC leases the mile long lead and the classification yard for car storage and training purposes. Here is a training train departing the base back for the Anchorage yard. The twin geeps are used to practice switching with newly hired brakeman, and the dome coach is used as fancy taxi to and from the isolated trackage. The lone flat car carries an emergency response command center container that is outfitted with refrigerators and a microwave and tables and other conveniences to provide a break room and lunch area for the trainers and students. |
