| Buenos Aires al Pacifico's ALCo. RSD16 #8504 glistens in the early morning sun as she trods the weed-grown double track mainline between Bosques and Villa Elisa with a train of coal-laden gondolas. Gray-colored heavy canvas covers the tops of the cars to avoid cargo loss and prevent air pollution with flying coal dust. In the far left the line of steel poles brings remembrance of the stillborn electrification projected for this alternate line in the mid-80's. But as the electrification was never accomplished the line remained what it has ever been: a secondary link between Buenos Aires and La Plata good enough to route freight trains away from the parallel passenger main running closer to the shores of the Río de la Plata. |
