Remarks & Notes

The most photogenic spot on the very photogenic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has to be the place you see here. Just before the northbound trains reach Rockwood, they climb the final grade along a rock shelf, that overlooks Elbert Creek (below the photographer) and Shalona Lake (visible on the left). When the sun is out, the approaching trains are bathed in broadside morning light. The colorful consist snaking through this beautiful scenery just screams Colorado Narrow Gauge to me. Sure, there are tons of other good photo spots on the line, but if I've got to pitch my tripod in one place to watch the action, this is where you'll find me.
