General Belgrano Railroad's English Electric # 5789 rests under the early-Spring sun at the Tapiales Locomotive Shed, while in the background Werkspoor DEB #10797 moves slowly and away from the shed. Meter-gauge 1.000 HP. # 5789 was built in E.E.'s Robert Stephenson Works in 1957 as a part of a 21-unit order. Beginning in mid-1980 all the remaining members of the class, as well as all operating Werkspoor DEB's, were progressively withdrawn from service and replaced by a group of General Electric export-model U12C's which became surplus in the northern lines of the General Belgrano RR. after a massive incorporation of new GM-EMD G22CU and GT22CU units.
