During Spring Break of 2007, I paid a visit to Utah's Cache Valley to photograph it's namesake local which on Tuesdays and Thursdays runs north from Logan, Utah to Preston, Idaho. Pictured at the cut stone Oregon Short Line depot, Chris Wilson a regular on this job revs up the UP 2575 & UP 618 for the 27 mile journey to the Gem State. It is surprising that UP hasn't spun off this rural branchline to a shortline operator. Apparently it's overlapping interstate status complicates the transfer of ownership and the UP continues to operate it five days per week.
