Colorado Fuel & Iron Created from the merger of the Colorado Coal and Iron Company with the Colorado Fuel Company, in 1892, CF&I was the first integrated and largest steel mill west of the Mississippi River and initially began production in 1872. It would become a mainstay of the railroad industry by providing quality rail, tie plates, joint bars and even spikes at one time. As the years went by it would only provide rail and still does to this day now under the name of Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel. Its rail can still be found all over the U.S. railroad system. This 132 pound/yard rail was rolled and Controlled Cooled in July of 1985 in Pueblo, Colorado and now provides support for the trains of Norfolk Southern’s Central of Georgia District.
