A Southern Pacific freight, with Burlington Northern SD40-2 6801 in the lead (testing the Locotrol system for the SP), heads west over the famed Tehachapi Loop on March 19, 1978. In moments, the SD40-2 and the SP GP40X will be passing under the rear half of their train.
