B&O westbound hotshot Gateway 97 drops downgrade through the S curves at Austen, WV on October 20, 1978 with GP30 No. 6922 leading four other units. Other than the Trailer Jets, Gateway 97 was the hottest train on the West End at that time. It was also a train you could count on, showing up in mid-afternoon when the sun was just right.
