    Remarks & Notes
The new face of Whittier - A pair of ARR Geeps in "heritage" paint are reaching onto the slip with a "handle" of idler cars to begin pulling the "Aqua Train." CN owns the barge and loads it at Prince Rupert, BC. They contract with Foss Maritime whose tugs make the three day one way journey up the Inside Passage and across the Gulf of Alaska. The 8 track barge can carry in excess of 50 cars depending on car length and arrives in Whittier every 10 days. To learn a little more about this service click here to visit CN’s official page. This scene has changed dramatically in the past few weeks. After some four decades of service the "towers" of the old barge slip have been removed and the cable lift system has been replaced with a new hydraulic ram system. The clouds are hanging low over the calm blue waters of Prince William Sound and if you look to the left of the unit you can see a seagull flying and Billings Glacier snaking its way down from the Chugach Mountains. Note: the photographer is a railroad employee with permission to be on the property and was wearing all required PPE while taking this photograph.
