CP 8917 and 8903 are westbound on the Laggan Sub between Calgary and the yard of Keith, about 10 miles west of the city. They are taking loads of sulphur to Keith to be weighed before heading west to Vancouver on another train. The 8900's at this time only ran between Calgary and Keith because they were not reliable enough for a longer distance moves as can be seen from the engine smoke coming out from all orifices of the unit. They had 3 trainmasters in use for this service (8917, 8903 and 8909).
The coniferous and boreal forests of North America, found above about 44-45 degrees North, hold a magic all their own--especially when framing a long freight.
Photographs where trains and people mix, weather it's street running, plant switching or carrying a unit grain train out of an elevator, it will be put here.
