| Arnold”s Loop on the UP Shafter Sub in eastern Nevada is a wonder to the eyes when you are perched high up on the hillside above it. You can see the entire loop and some of the approaches as well. After rounding the loop in either direction the two sets of tracks come very close together horizontally. There is considerable elevation difference however, as that is the purpose of the loop after all. This photo exhibits the narrowness of the “neck” of the loop as UP 7141 brings a unit grain train uphill through the “neck” area”. There are two more AC units on the rear in DPU mode. This shot was taken from the same spot and about 1 minute later than my image #361535. |
