Off to the races! A trio of horses gallop alongside a loaded grain train near Sunset, Washington, in the heart of the Palouse region. A late harvest brought on by unusually wet spring weather has resulted in this being the first cut of loads pulled from the elevators along the Palouse River & Coulee City's Hooper/PV lines. After further pickups from St. John, Willada and Endicott, this grain will move down UP's Ayer Sub to Wallula for transloading to a barge and thence shipment down the Columbia River. Of note, the nearest horse is of the Appaloosa breed, which is native to the Palouse region as a result of the Nez Perce Tribe's centuries-old breeding program.
