| While the tractors are idled for the day, the Eastern Washington Gateway pushes on to get the train to Cheney before the hours of service law catches the one-man crew. In an irony of economics, the farmer has state of the art efficient machinery, while his crop is carried by relics to be cost effective on a line that doesn’t support many carloads per year. A 40-year-old SD45 and 58-year-old GP7 team up to pull cars built 35+ years ago on 85lb rail laid a century ago. |
