Getting an early morning start from Chesapeake this morning, shortly after sunrise the southbound C&A train has arrived at Shawboro siding led by the line's entire active roster: a pair of GP7u's. The second unit is dropped in the siding and lead unit 2190 works hard to pull the train clear of the switch so that 2158 can couple onto the rear. This move is necessary to deliver the train to a customer's siding at Elizabeth City a few miles south. The 2158 and 2190 were built in 1952 and 1953 respectively, and were rebuilt into their current form by the AT&SF with new noses, cabs, and 645 power assemblies. This pair was the original C&A power before two GP38M's arrived about a decade ago. However, with one of the newer Geeps taken out of service and the other plowing through a lift bridge in 2010, the older Geeps are once again the line's sole power.
