| Randfontein Estates Gold Mine maintained a fleet of ex South African Railways class GMAM Garratt locomitives to haul 1000 ton gold ore trains from their shafts to the reduction plants. This spectacular operation continued to be steam worked until 1995, ten years after the SAR withdrew this class. This posting also celebrates South Africa's 3 gold medals (so far) in the London Olympics. |
