      Remarks & Notes
Having seen Georg Trueb's and Markus Gemuer's wonderful photos of the Pilatus Bahn posted in the past week I though viewers might like to see one of the original rack & pinion steam railcars used on this line. Here No 9 built in 1889 by SLM waits to make a special trip to the summit. It will climb 5,44ft in a distance of 2 5/8 miles with a maximum gradiet of 48% (1 in 2 1/2). This view clearly shows the Locher rack system and the railcar's outside flanged wheels.
