A couple of the old Southern Pacific Rotaries can still be seen lingering around Union Pacific's J.R. Davis Yard in Roseville, California. These snow removal beasts are still used in extreme circumstances when Donner Pass gets hit with a mega storm. Just a couple years ago, the rotaries had to be called out to rescue a flanger that had been hit by an avalanche. The rotaries then continued clearing the wet and heavy Sierra snow. There is no backup for the rotaries. The rotaries truly are the A team.
