    Remarks & Notes
It's train time at Steubenville! While locals watch express and baggage being unloaded at it's stop along the Panhandle, a photo is captured of 1953 life in America. For the rivet counters, this train is led by engines #5701 and 5702, units 2 & 3 in PRR's second order of E8's, the first in Tuscan Red w/pinstripes. For the bean counters, the turned waterspout indicates a cost-savings on the balance sheet. Not much is left to suggest this scene today. Perhaps someone will be able to ID this train in PRR's Panhandle fleet. I rode this train from Pittsburgh arriving in the afternoon on my first visit to Ohio. PRR Class EP44.

The Pennsy was one of the biggest passenger carriers in the United States, but its fortunes waned and it lost business to the highways and skies, and stumbled toward its ill-fated merger with the New York Central.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
