    Remarks & Notes
Roanoke River Wayside on Rt 460 just west of Salem is one of the only places to catch action on the old N&W and Virginian as both lines cross a public highway just a few hundred yard apart. Here N&W SD45 1806 leads a loaded coal train on the old Virginian towards Roanoke. The NS integration is well underway in this May 1984 photo as evidenced by the mixed power and infusion of Southern hopper cars.
