Morning on a hazy, late summer day in September 1983, reveals a Chicago and North Western EMD SD38-2 laying on its side near the Hampton Avenue overpass at Butler Yard in Butler, Wisconsin. Work is well underway to right the 2,000 hp, 68’-10” machine from its resting place after a switching mishap the evening before. Of course, the spectacle has brought out a large number of observers watching the action on the overpass, as well as a lot of brass from the nearby divisional offices.
