    Remarks & Notes
St Louis-San Francisco Railway 2-10-0 No 1630 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1918. She has 52 inch drivers, 24 x 28 inch cylinders, operates at 160 lbs of boiler pressure, and can produce up to 42,180 lbs of tractive effort. She is one of the Russian decapods that stayed in the United States and was instead sold to the Frisco. After being retired she was sold to the Eagle-Picher mining company and eventually donated to the Illinois Railway Museum. This image illustrates the doghouse (brakeman's shanty) on the tender that Frisco used in the steam era. The head brakeman rode in it and was able to look back along the train for evidence of anything amiss on the train. I rode in this doghouse and it was cramped and fairly uncomfortable, but you could look back at the following cars.
