Remarks & Notes

NS 6601 is seen on Track 27 at the Juniata Shops in the beginning stages of transition to an SD60E. An NS employee empties out the sandbox on this SD60, to prepare the rest of the nose and cab for the torch. This locomotive will be completely disassembled to the bare frame and then will be rebuilt into a practically new locomotive at a fraction of the cost of a entirely new one from EMD or GE.
