| Around 2005 Metrolink bought four F40PH hulks from Amtrak and four SD60s from the UP with the thought of creating some Frankenstein F59PHs. The plan was flawed (the 710s prime movers were too big for the F40s and no one bid on the rebuild request for bids). Thus it never came to be, but one of the F40PH hulks turned out to still be serviceable so they kept it and painted it. Here we are in 2014 and it's still going strong, now with a train to Riverside. |
