Remarks & Notes

Westbound oil cans. Denver & Rio Grande K-27 #463 hauls a string of oil cans and other mixed freight bound for Chama via Cumbres Pass. The train is climbing a steady grade on the northern edge of a lava-capped mesa, formed by volcanic activity several million years ago. She has just about 2 miles to go until she makes a water stop at a lonely wooden tank, appropriately named "Lava".
