"The Lurgan Local"
CSX 8570 an EMD SD50-2 rebuild leads the Chambersburg, PA local down the high line of the old Western Maryland Lurgan as it approaches New Franklin on it's way from Hagerstown. Two lines are separated at grade, the other lower line lies just beyond the corn stalks of the far field, it' connection cut off at both ends at New Franklin and Guilford (about 2 miles south). The High Line was predominantly used for south (rr west) bounds as it has a steeper grade as seen in the photo than the low line. |
