On August 17th, the NS 8020 lost the #6 traction motor while being the trailing unit on a coal train to Belews Creek Steam Station. The unit sat on the siding at Watkins until this date for a crew to remove the traction motor and replace it with an axle for the trip back to Roanoke, Va for repair. The heavy lift crane was brought in from Richmond, Va.
