In 2014 a competition was held for the design of the 'Green Train' and on 20 september 2014 the train made its first official run from Amsterdam to Haarlem. By 2018, all trains of NS will be powered by energy from windmills. The train is not just green, but has yellow and blue 'pixels'. Therefore, the train looks (a bit) green from a distance.
