    Remarks & Notes
The recently rerouted Vermonter crosses the classic stone bridge over the Fall River on a cold Saturday afternoon. The bridge is on the former Boston & Maine Conn River Line that hosted the Amtrak Montrealer until deteriorating track conditions forced its cancellation in 1987. On December 28th, 2014 the Vermonter was moved back to this recently rebuilt line after running on a Central Vermont/New England Central routing just to the east of here since 1989.

The successor to the Montrealer, the Vermonter runs between St. Albans, Vt., and Washington, DC. Much of the northern part of the route runs along the Connecticut and White Rivers.

Once treated like a backwater with decrepit locomotives, cars and track, Massachusetts has become a star in the Amtrak constellation with electrification to Boston, service to Maine and an upgraded Connecticut Valley line.
