This is one of three N&W Y6 class engines (one Y6a and two Y6b's) that languished into the mid 1970's in Roanoke. It is one of roughly a handful of post steam era scrapings that took place that almost now seem unthinkable.
But, in the summer of 1967 this Y6b was just waiting for the inevitable.
