One Year to Retirement. A westbound Union Pacific freight passes through Maxwell, Nebraska, on August 20, 1987. Power for this train is UP SD40 3068, MP GP50 3524, UP SD40-2 3564 and UP SD60 6047. Lead engine UP 3068 would remain on the UP's roster for just one more year, as it was retired on August 17, 1988 - three days shy of one year from this photo.
