    Remarks & Notes
Amtrak San Diegan #578 arrives at the Del Mar station as it heads to San Diego from Los Angeles in January 1988. Built by the Santa Fe Railway, the Del Mar station served passengers from the early 1900s until its closure in 1995, supplanted by a new transportation center at Solana Beach, just two miles to the north. For much of that time, Del Mar was the only passenger stop between Oceanside and San Diego after the stations at Encinitas and Carlsbad were closed. Through much of Del Mar, the tracks skirt the Pacific Ocean, which is just to the left in this scene.
