Near sunset, an eastbound vehicle train passes dwarf pines at Perrin on the Williams-Crookton Line Relocation. This portion of the Transcon was opened on December 19, 1960, and cost the railroad just over $19 million to build. The relocated line allowed eastbound trains to bypass the steep grades and tight curves of Johnson Canyon, reducing maximum curvature to 1.0 degrees.
