An eastbound Norfolk Southern coal train crosses the high steel trestle at the former mining community of Micajah, West Virginia, on the drab day of January 4, 2003. Three more locomotives are pushing on the rear of this train, which is climbing the 2.07 percent grade to Clarks Gap on the former Virginian Railway.
