Amtrak operated its annual Autumn Express train this year from Albany, New York to East Deerfield, Massachusetts and return with Amtrak P42DC 145 and P40DC 822 leading an 11-car train over trackage owned by Canadian Pacific Railway and Pan Am Southern. Amtrak 805-24 rolls through North Adams, Massachusetts on the trip eastbound to East Deerfield.
Once treated like a backwater with decrepit locomotives, cars and track, Massachusetts has become a star in the Amtrak constellation with electrification to Boston, service to Maine and an upgraded Connecticut Valley line.
