        You could always tell when C&O 614 had been working a heavy train on a grade. The smokebox would be as shiny and as black as it was when it started the trip. From the drivers back, the engine would have a whitish coating of ground sand, making it tough to get a proper exposure that didn't underexpose or overexpose something.
