            Remarks & Notes
Originally built in 1903, the Durand Union Station is a landmark to the dedication that Grand Trunk Western had to the community of Durand and to it customers. Re-built after a fire in 1905, the depot was used until 1974 when it was closed, and in 1979 in an effort to preserve the landmark, the City of Durand purchased it and began the process of renovation. Today it serves as the Michigan Railroad Museum, and as an Amtrak station stop. While there are less trains than when it first opened, it is still a treat to see a train pass by. After running south and making the turn at Osmer, the GLC OSTN passes by the depot with a decent sized train destined for Owosso. Photo taken on CN property, by CN employee, certified in On-Track Safety, while not fouling track unnecessarily. Basically, in other words, unless you work for CN, don't try to recreate this shot, it's not worth the ticket.
