On September 22, 1997, the ritual of passing up NORAC Form D on Conrail's Harrisburg Line was nearing the end of its necessity as CTC was just a few short years away. The hooping up of orders required a steady hand and nerves of steel for both the operator and the engineer or conductor. In this image, the concentration of the operator, Jim Largent - not staring down the train to create a perhaps dizzying episode - is accompanied by the ready engineer on the moving train as it approaches Sheridan, Pennsylvania. This act was played out dozens of times daily when maintenance of way would take one track or the other out of service.
