A swollen Caltrain 174 hustles out of Bayshore with a full load of baseball fans fresh from Pacific Bell Park. This 2-engine 8-car train was carrying over 1100 passengers. An extra train preceeded it, and another extra train followed.
Where once there was only one commuter carrier, Southern Pacific between San Jose and San Francisco, today there are three: Caltrain (former SP), Altamont Commuter Express, and the newest, SMART (Sonoma-Marin Rapid Transit).
